Eric Parnell is of the Eagle Clan of Haida Nation. Eric is self-taught, but is inspired by traditional Northwest coast design. Eric was recently commissioned by Vancouver Native Housing Society to re-design the Society's corporate identity and logo and was one of many Aboriginal artists commissioned to work on the eagles in the city art installation project.
The double-headed raven in the dancer's upraised hand is an Eric Parnell design. Eric shares his story in the following quote from the "Looking Forward Looking Back" project: "I started my art career kind of slowly. As a child I grew interested in art- just visually fell in love with the art, hanging around older artists who carved rock from Haida Gwaii." "Getting into it at a later age through doodling, somebody saw me drawing, you should start marketing you work.. so that's how I started."
