HUMMINGBIRD
The Hummingbird brings happiness and joy when they return in the spring after a long winter. She is a feminine symbol representing beauty, intelligence, peace and love. In Pacific Northwest Coast First Nations art, the Hummingbird is portrayed with a long thin beak, a large round head and large outspread wings, and is often depicted surrounded by fauna, with a beak embedded in a flower. Hummingbirds are always portrayed in a profile view.
ARTIST BIO
Tsimshian native artist Bill Helin enjoys a very rewarding career as a creative gold engraver, painter, woodcarver, and book illustrator. He loves to paint mythological images to educate people on the Tsimshian nation's history, and the many stories passed down through his ancestors. His greatest passion, however, is to spiritually represent and bond individuals together through the use of native Life Crest symbols. Bill Helin's art is reproduced in collaboration with the artist, and royalties are paid to the artist on each item sold.
